2008 has come to a close...

Well...

2008 has come and gone. It is almost too hard to believe. The year was full of major milestones. In February I became a legal adult on my 18th birthday. In mid-June I graduated from high school. In August I started college at George Mason University. There was also the family cruise to Alaska in late June/early July for my dad's aunt and uncle's 50th wedding anniversary. That wasn't necessarily a milestone, but it was certainly a major event in the year.

In retrospect, it was a good year but I am sad to see it go. No other year will ever be like it - you only graduate from high school and start college once. 2009 should bring new and exciting challenges and adventures.

My 18th Birthday!!!

Hello everyone -

So, today is/was my 18th birthday! I don't feel like I'm 18 yet. It took me a while to realize I turned 17, so it will probably take me even longer to realize I'm 18.

Because of the weather, there was a two-hour delay. I was very happy to get to sleep in!

I had a quiz today in Computer Science. My teacher made it a partner quiz, so that made it worse. I hate partner/group assignments.

That's about it for today.

The beginning of February...

Hello everyone -

So, I realize that I haven't updated at all in February, and we are now about halfway through the month. I just have been really busy with various tests and quizzes and reading assignments. Also, I'm trying to keep another journal, so sometimes I do that and then forget about the blog, or it it is too late to to do the blog as well.

Tomorrow is my 18th birthday!!! I am very excited. It is supposed to be a dreary day, though, so that's never fun.

I voted today. I went right after I was done with the a-capella choir rehearsal. Let's just say I voted Democratic, yet not for Clinton. I think you can figure out who I voted for :). I was really happy when I saw that he won the Democratic primary for VA! I decided to vote Democratic because I don't really mind either of the two Republican candidates, but there is a certain Democratic candidate that I really do not want to become the president.

That's about it!

The rest of January...

Hi everyone -

So, I now realize that I haven't posted to this blog in about 2 1/2 weeks. Sorry about that!

Not much has been going on. I have had my Trig final and a Computer Science test. Last week I got my new Spanish teacher. She seems nice.

I have had three days off of school since I last posted. One was MLK Jr. Day. The other two were teacher workdays.

Tomorrow, providing there is no delayed opening, my choir will be going to a local elementary school to perform 4 songs. I have a test on Othello tomorrow. I was supposed to have an Environmental Science test as well, but that got pushed back a day.

Mom has been out getting ready for and performing at a Bank Street Band(BSB) gig. She has another BSB gig on Saturday, the church Mardi Gras party.

That's about it for now.

Less than 2 weeks until my 18th birthday!!!!!!

No more braces!!!

Yes, that's right. I got my braces off Thursday. I haven't gotten my retainers yet because my orthodontist decided to close Thursday afternoon when I was supposed to come pick them up.

This week has been fairly busy. I had a Government midterm this morning, and I had a test in Government just this past Monday.

I have my Trig final on Wednesday, so I have been pretty busy getting ready for that. In addition, we just had a test this past Monday.

In English we're getting ready to finish Othello.

Other than that, there has just been the usual busyness.

Dad had to go to Basking Ridge, NJ for the day today. He still isn't home, although it is 10:10 PM. Mom has just left to go pick him up at the Vienna Metro station (he had her drop him off this morning there, then he took Metro to Union Station and the train up to NJ, then rental car to where he needed to go). On the way back to the train station in NJ he got lost by getting off the interstate too early, and decided that he would find his way again by calling Mom to look at Google Maps for him. He didn't even pull over and let her figure out where he was and where he needed to go, so that made it even harder for her. He could have corrected himself twice, but he didn't realize it. I had to help her search the map to find streets that he kept telling her. Finally we got him back on track to where he had been this morning. Of course, he missed his train so he had to wait an hour for the next one. All because he didn't just stop and ask someone for directions (yes, I know that's on the 2nd X chromosome and not the Y). Oh, well.

That's about it for today.

My really busy week...

Hello again -

This week has been really busy. I had a Trig quiz on Tuesday, an AP Environmental Science test Wednesday, and an essay due Thursday. That and it was a B-week so two times I had to complete all of my B-day assignments in two days.

I spent most of last weekend doing homework and Girl Scout cookie orders. This weekend I just have to get my dad to help me figure out some Computer Science stuff if he has time.

I'll try to update sometime mid-week next week.

An article in today's Post...

Hello everyone -

If you skimmed the articles on the front page of today's Washington Post Metro section, you most likely discovered that a Chantilly High School Spanish teacher by the name of Matthew McGuire was arrested Wednesday. You may be wondering: I know Bridget takes Spanish; has she been taught by this teacher? The unfortunate answer is yes, he was my Spanish 4 (This year's class) teacher. I could always tell that his head wasn't screwed on quite right, but you can never see this stuff coming until it slams you in the face.

This morning it was very creepy to be in Spanish class, especially because I was the first student out to the trailer.

The Foreign Language assistant principal is working hard to find us a long-term sub. Hopefully we will get someone who will not ruin the rest of our year.

I will post this evening with details about my week.

The end of the week...

Hello everyone -

The end of this week has been really hectic. I have an essay due in Government at the end of next week, a Trig quiz on Tuesday, a new topic in Computer Science. Also, my APES teacher just told us on our first class back from Winter Break (Thursday) that she told us the wrong chapter to read so our test that was supposed to be Monday is now Wednesday. Two days is not a whole lot of extra time to read a 26-page textbook chapter and study the other chapter that we read a while ago.

Today I spent my whole afternoon selling GS cookies, working on my Government essay (which I now only have one more paragraph to write of), reading my APES book, and getting help in Trig. Tomorrow I will have to do some more reading of my APES book.

I registered to vote yesterday in my Government class, so I should be all set to vote in the primary on Feb. 12th.

Yesterday in choir we did sectionals on one of our new pieces. Let me tell you, it was not fun! I had to play the piano, and it is a little above my skill level so I was having a really hard time.

Mr. Fuchs (choir teacher) told us yesterday that we have a 1.5 hour rehearsal after school on Feb. 13! I really did not want to have to stay after on my birthday (especially until 4)!

Tomorrow in church we sing "For Unto Us a Child Is Born". It's not one of my favorites.

That's about it for now.
